About

Who Am I?

Hi, I’m Matteo.

First of all, a disclaimer: I am not a professional chef or a full-time food critic. I am, however, a huge pizza lover.

I was born and bred in Milan, Italy and I’ve always enjoyed pizza in all its styles and forms: Neapolitan, Roman, Milanese, but also New York Style, Detroit style, Chicago Deep Dish…

I now live in Leeds.

When at home, I enjoy stretching dough and baking my own pizza – both in my regular home oven and in the Ooni. And sometimes I climb boulders / attempt to hit tennis balls.

Why Yorkshire Pizza?

I started this blog because I felt the Yorkshire pizza scene had so much to offer and deserved more visibility.

I love a Neapolitan pizza, and I’ll admit I used to struggle to find good pizzerias that made them “proper”.

Now, you can see new high quality pizzerias opening up everywhere, both restaurants and takeaway. It’s hard to keep track of all the good spots!

A lot of reviews I found online are either superficial or just collections of the most popular restaurants that everybody already knows (Domi-no thank you), rather than reviews of authentic experiences across indie restaurants.

My goal is to try as many pizzerias as I can and review them in the most objective way… Saying both the good and the bad.

If you really care about good dough, exciting ingredients and overall special pizzerias, you might just be in the right place 🙂

Hopefully you’ll find some good inspiration in my reviews and articles – and you’ll discover some true gems.

PS. If you want to know how I review pizzas in an objective, transparent and structured way, check out my set of criteria on this page

Let’s chat

I’m always looking for my next favourite slice.

If you know a pizzeria in Yorkshire that’s doing something special, or if you want to simply chat, get in touch.
